Another fantastic model from the past few months. This was a new lighting setup I was experimenting with. You will see this soon for a wedding shoot we did which was a load of fun.
Vanessa Furlong from Three Sheet!

People ask what I do in my down time from wedding over the year. Well I spent a large chunk of it being home with my family, marketing for the next year and shooting models and commercial work. This was a set from a shoot I did with Vanessa Furlong a little while ago. She is a singer in a local rap group Three Sheet, you should check them out!
Portraits and Models! | Halifax Nova Scotia
It’s the slow season of the year. We meet clients, book weddings, meet families but there isn’t a whole lot of shooting required. So to keep my head fresh and ideas flowing I bring friends into the studio and shoot. Fun is always had of course and it feels pretty inspirational to snap off the old camera. Below are a few samples of the past few months of model shots.

Wedding Veils for all! | Halifax NS Wedding Photography
So this past week the group of wedding photographers that get together each month had another shoot out. This time we went into the dingy basement of the roy building and photographed a very willing model Debbie in a series of dresses and veils. Here are the results!

What do I do in my free time?
I shoot fantastic looking models in fantastic looking dresses. That’s what I do with my free time. A few weekends ago we did a wedding show at the Cunard Center here in Halifax. One of the vendors there, Pink Mascara Accessories had a wide range of dresses and accessories on displayed. We got to talking and said it would be great to get some models and dresses together. So we did just that. Below is the results of that great night!
Life is Beautiful

So I have shot with Jacqui a few times in the past, but they always tended to be darker themes. I think she got sick of them and demanded something bright and happy. I left the concept up to her and this was the result, pretty fun if you ask me!
Lady in the water!
The temperature here hasn’t gone below 30 degrees celsius for almost a week now. If you know me on a personal level you know I don’t deal well with the heat. I hate the heat! So whats the solution to the heat? Well normally the solution is swimming, so lets go swimming and do what I do best and take photos while we are at it. With no real plan or end goal we headed deep into the woods to a secluded lake I know off and brought along a few pieces of gear and just wished our selves the best of luck.
Karen and Joanna brought a few different outfits just to see what we could get and I think the images turned out amazing! A simple flash on a boom with am umbrella and Wala! It’s nice to just go out with no real plan, no real goal and just sort of see what you get, see what happens when there is no solid plan. That’s exactly what this was and what happened. I have been feeling really restricted as of late with a lot of commercial work coming in and the wedding season coming to an end. Some times you feel restricted and uncreative when you start to follow the guide lines set for you by the client and it’s just nice to go out and shoot what ever you feel like shooting.
so no matter how much work matters, or how much you need to pay that power bill, don’t forget to go out and just shoot for your self some time.
The end of the world as we know it!
If you know anything about me then you know my love for anything Post Apocalyptic. Movies, games or novels. Madmax, Waterworld, Fallout, or even any Zombie flicks, they all got my imagination running off in all sorts of directions. And now even with the rise of Steam Punk I feel it was time for a new personal project.
The new personal project that will take place over the next year or so, I decided I wanted to recreate a variety of characters from my imagination, heavily influenced by those movies and games. I’ve recruited a a crazy batch of friends and model to pose and create these characters in their heads. These are simple studio portraits of those characters but eventually we will be getting outside and making wonderful pieces of art.
Watch here on the blog, I’ll be sure to post more photos as we progress with the project.
Laura Nurse
Laura is participating in a national Model competition and we had to quickly get some head and body shots lined up to be sent to New York. The photos came out fantastic for the time restraints we had!
Dance!
I’ve been working with a few dancers in the studio as of late, learning how to capture motion in a studio setting. I love how these turned out.
