You know those big secrets you just cant wait to let out? This was one of those…Over tea one day our dear friends Kaija and Doug reviled to us that they were having a baby!! I don’t think we have even been so happy for such wonderful people. Well a few days days ago the world welcomed Thea Aline Munroe! I wonder if she was number 6,999,996 in the population given all the new estimates? either way, we have already volunteered to baby sit…

We had the opportunity to meet Meaghan and Brad a while back in a seedy Tim Hortons on Quinpool. Luckily for us there was nothing seedy about them. An absolute riot the entire day and they rocked. Brad even allowed us to play YMCA!

Newlan Family Portraits! | Halifax Wedding Photography

I have always believed that family portraits belong outdoors. Except when it’s freezing outside and very very wet. Then of course you need to go indoors. Well here we are in lovely Febuary weather in Halifax Nova Scotia…and sometimes you just need to go in doors!

Portraits and Models! | Halifax Nova Scotia

It’s the slow season of the year. We meet clients, book weddings, meet families but there isn’t a whole lot of shooting required. So to keep my head fresh and ideas flowing I bring friends into the studio and shoot. Fun is always had of course and it feels pretty inspirational to snap off the old camera. Below are a few samples of the past few months of model shots.

So this past week the group of wedding photographers that get together each month had another shoot out. This time we went into the dingy basement of the roy building and photographed a very willing model Debbie in a series of dresses and veils. Here are the results!

What do I do in my free time?

Posted By Brian Larter / February, 16, 2010 / 13 comments

I shoot fantastic looking models in fantastic looking dresses. That’s what I do with my free time. A few weekends ago we did a wedding show at the Cunard Center here in Halifax. One of the vendors there, Pink Mascara Accessories had a wide range of dresses and accessories on displayed. We got to talking and said it would be great to get some models and dresses together. So we did just that. Below is the results of that great night!

For the Love of Lily | Halifax Nova Scotia Photography

Family

Sometimes you get lucky enough to meet someone who impacts your life for the better, and when you meet this person they earn a special place in your heart. I was lucky enough to meet Melanie Mansfeild about 5 years ago. She was always a happy and upbeat person with knowledge and wisdom well beyond her years. When I ran into her again at the Atlantic Bridal Showcase we talked and did some catching up…

You may have noticed in the paper over the past week a few articles on a lower Sackville family who have found themselves in a struggle and need your help.

The Mansfeild’s, Melanie, Joey and their two daughters Emily and Lily will be headed to Ontario to have lifesaving chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants done for Lily. Lily is 4 months old and her closest matched donor is her older sister Emily…

The Mansfeild’s will have to stay in Ontario for up to six months and will be making daily trips to the hospital for both of their daughters. In order to fund their trip they are hosting a benefit, “For the Love of Lily” which will be taking place at the Roadhouse (961 Bedford Hyw) Saturday, March 6, 2010 8:00pm – 11:00pm. The event will be hosted by Marc Sauvé and will feature a silent auction where all proceeds go to pay for the family’s trip and lodgings while in Ontario. Tickets are $25.00 each and are all for a very worthy cause.

Here are a few photos we did of the Mansfeild family…for a family in need of so much one thing is for sure, they will never run out of love.

We’ve found over the past year or so there has been an increasing demand from our brides for something a little different, to give their hubbies on the wedding night as a surprise gift. And who doesn’t like a sexy book of the lady of their dreams? We all do, that’s who!

Wedding traditions are definitely changing, fewer churches, less rigidity in the day, male and female mixed wedding parties…the works. But with every door that closes a new one opens and I think that most people enjoy being able to customize their weddings to match their personalities.

I asked one of my brides, “what made you decide you wanted to do boudoir?” and what she said to me really made me think. She told me she wanted to be immortalized in a sexy but tasteful way so she and her husband could always remember what she looked like when they were married. She told me that once she got past the initial modesty, bought some fun outfits and tried out some poses at home it was a lot of fun and helped boost her confidence before the big day. In the end she loved her images and had a nice book printed up for her husband. I enjoyed getting all the feedback and knowing that I helped someone by giving them a little confidence boost and helping them to let go and enjoy themselves. And well it of course was a blast!

Fun with the Fox-MacNeils!

Posted By Brian Larter / January, 18, 2010 / 0 comments

Every year when i go home for Christmas my mom asks me to take some photos of the family, I of course agree and off to shoot we go. I pass them along and they get printed and put into a photo album, not to be seen again for years to come. I never put a lot of thought into those photos when I was younger, but not being an older wiser Brian I realize how important those photos are, professional or not. We went looking for some albums this year to show Karen but we just couldn’t find the ones I was looking for. I was pretty disappointed. This got me to thinking…

I love shooting families. You get to spend the afternoon with 3, 4, 5 (who knows) people you know little to nothing about and get to know them, and creating memories for years to come. Karen has known The Fox MacNeil Family for some time now as she has babysat Gus and Angus in the past, but it was sstill nice for me to get to know them. Just before Christmas we went over to the family homestead and spent the afternoon with Gus and family! Photo awesomeness of course took place! Tada!

Out with the old, in with the new! {Halifax, Nova Scotia}

Posted By Brian Larter / January, 11, 2010 / 0 comments

2009 was a crazy year for Karen and I. We pretty much started our photography business together shooting weddings. It was a roller coaster of ups and downs, fun times and slaving away to make it all work. Over all we are happy to report it was a rip roaring success! Bring on 2010 baby!

As the first post of many for 2010 I thought it would be a good idea to show off some of our proudest photos from the past year, this is far from all of them. This is just a taste of what is to come. I’m excited to get 2010 started!
